"You're Going Down"
It’s hard for her teammates to picture, the likeable-Veteran,
BreakHer Baker, wielding an automatic weapon and driving across the
deserts of Iraq just a short time ago.
But once you hit the
track with the 28 year-old, Arizona native, the image doesn’t seem
so far-fetched.
| "I'll
always be a South Jersey Derby Girl" |
“After 9/11, I
thought joining the Marine Corps was a good idea. I went open contract. And
ended up basically being a truck driver for 4 years. I got to blow shit up
though!! MK19 Grenade Machine Gun, 50CAL, 240Golf Machine Gun, M249 (SAW), M203,
M16, Shotgun, Pistol, etc...”
Now majoring in
Photography at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Baker says, “Roller Derby is
like therapy after a shitty day... a couple bruises and a shit-eatin grin warms
the soul.”
Rarely missing a
practice, Baker says, “I’ve never been good at sports, but found my calling with
the South Jersey Derby Girls.”
Perhaps working as
a rollergirl at Sonic Burgers helped her hon her derby-esque skills, cause it
didn’t take her long to graduate to the SJDG Travel Team and get placed on the
Intraleague, Rollin’ Barren Bandits team, the 2008 SJDG League Champions.
When she’s not
tearing up the track, Baker can be found cuddling with her boyfriend of 5 years,
Kyle, whom she met in the Marine Corps, and their pooch, Noodles.

years ago.
-
I do not believe
in god, but I am spiritual. I believe that if your a good person that's
enough.
