One rookie finds her tribe.

Ξ May 12th, 2010 |

I have been a hair stylist for 3 years. I am so in love with what I do, but I am the kind of person that always wants more out of life.

One day me and my fiancé rented Whip It, after it was over I was online trying to find the closest organization I could join. I had no idea how I  would do, because the only experience I had on skates was when I was younger at skating parties.

Finally I found South Jersey Derby Girls.

After my first practice I was skeptical because I could barely stand up. But after I got my first pair of skates I was out in front of my house and at parks practicing for practice.

Then my second practice came, and all I knew was, no fear was the way to go.....

After my third and fourth and fifth training wheels practice came and went, everything was clicking. I was asked to try out for the rookie game. I was nervous, but all the girls were so nice and encouraging, it was hard to hold back. I found out I could participate in the game as a Little Bettie.... now all I could do is eat, drink and sleep derby....I got to pick my derby name, which was a long process, but I finally came up with one....M.C. SlamHer...can't believe no one has that name yet!! I got so lucky.

The game was so exciting, everyone did great, including myself. Even though the Little Betties lost, it was an amazing experience...After our game, the vets played and I can not wait to see what the future holds for me..

Now I am a Big Rig Bettie, and I have a lot work ahead of me.... But I know it will all be worth it in the end. I can't wait for the next game, wish me luck, because its in a few weeks!!
