Westville -- It was a long night, but in the end South Jersey Derby pulled out a blistering 62-49 lead against the Penn Jersey She-Devils, June 14th, at the Deptford Skating Center in Westville.

Bringing the derby revival to area fans, SJ's High Voltage Hotties took a hefty 21-9 lead in the first period, as veteran skater PsychoSk8matic scored a whooping 13 points. A SJ wall by Jerzey Jezebel, rookie Hottie Hemmorage, and League President, Mos Deathly, proved impenetrable for Penn Jersey, as Billy Rae Siren lapped the track and added 5 points. Mos Deathly had a hard time jamming the first period, only scoring 3 points, as Penn Jersey siched team captain, Hard Licker, on her.

Rightfully dubbed the Expressway Showdown, the game turned fierce the second period, as the score tightened to 29-25 at one point. But then Billy Rae, nicknamed the one-hit wonder, consecutively leveled three PJ players, while her sister, Mos Deathly racked up an impressive 7 points widening the score to 38-25. Halfway through the period, though, Mos Deathly and PJSD player, Classy Chassis, took an ugly spill out of a turn, and both came up limping. But that wasn't before Classy Chassis, and her teammate, Wags, both gave Penn Jersey 4 points. SJ men's captain, That Kid Kenny, added another 5 points and ended the period with a score of 44-28.

The second period further came to a boil with less than 5 minutes remaining on the clock, as PsychoSk8matic and PJSD's Vidal Boom Boom tangled into a turn, and Vidal was launched into the wall. A short intermission ensued as Vidal was taken off the floor. She suffered a mild concussion, but in typical derby-fashion released herself from the hospital to attend the game's after-party.

Local band, Impulsive Decision, rocked in the final period as SJ pulled out all the punches to widen the score to 52-34, and then finally 62-49 as the buzzer sounded. Victory wasn't easy, though, as PJSD rookies Cheddar and Red Ranger left a trail of skater carnage on the track the third period.

Be sure to catch more derby action, Sunday, July 20th, as SJ's Big Rig Betties try to recapture the 1 seed from last month's crushing defeat by the Rollin' Barren Bandits.
