2008 OSDA CHAMPIONSHIPS
It is with great pride that we announce the upcoming OSDA Championships which will take place on December 6th at the International Sports Center, 1 Hovtech Boulevard in Mt. Laurel, NJ at 8:30pm.
In its intention to honor and respect our past, the OSDA is pleased to make the following announcements for that night:

The OSDA Women’s Championship will involve the Penn Jersey She Devils Travel Team (Philadelphia, PA) competing against the South Jersey Derby Girls Travel Team (Deptford, NJ) and will be officially named the Atkinson Cup.
As one of the leading families in all permutations of Derby from Roller Derby to RollerJam, the Atkinson Family has contributed much to this sport. It is our intention to honor them for their contributions. Buddy Atkinson, jr. will be at the game to present the award. long with the Atkinson Cup, there are two other major awards that will be given, the Female OSDA MVP will receive the Judy Arnold award. Many consider Judy Arnold the greatest women's Roller Derby skater to ever grace the banked oval. She began skating in 1960 and her career quickly began to soar. Judy Arnold soon became the captain of the Philadelphia Warriors in 1967, where she remained until she retired in 1975. We are pleased that Judy Arnold will be in attendance to present the award. We are delighted to be able to bring Judy Arnold back to the Philadelphia Area to honor her in the region where she is still so fondly remembered. The Male OSDA MVP will receive the Arnold Schoen Award. Although the demise of the Banked Track cut short his career, to us in the OSDA, he is every bit a superstar. We hope that he will be as honored by this tribute as we are to have him associated with OSDA. Arnold Schoen will be present that night to present the award as well.
Between the periods of the Championship Game, there will be a co-ed game contested in abbreviated form. This game will involve both male and female skaters skating on the track together. Members of these teams will be made up of skaters from OSDA leagues, Man's Ruin Rollergirls (Chester, NY), Richmond Derby Demons (Richmond, VA), South Jersey Derby and the Penn Jersey She Devils. Invitations are being extended to many other great skaters from the Derby world as well. It is our hope that they will also be in attendance.
The Old School Derby Association (OSDA) was officially founded in March of 2007 by Ken Sikes with the help of the Penn Jersey She Devils Roller Derby League and their coaches, Judy Sowinski and Arnold “Skip” Schoen. OSDA combines the most thrilling aspects of both old and modern rule sets to create a fast-moving, ultra-defensive game. The OSDA currently has member leagues in PA, NJ, NY, VA, and AZ and is constantly growing. It is the goal of the OSDA to once again show the beauty of a game that has kept Derby fans Derby fans for years.

6/17/08 - SJD Defeats PJSD 62-49
Westville -- It was a long night, but in the end South Jersey Derby pulled out a
blistering 62-49 lead against the Penn Jersey She-Devils, June 14th, at the
Deptford Skating Center in Westville.
Bringing the derby revival to area fans, SJ's High Voltage Hotties took a hefty
21-9 lead in the first period, as veteran skater PsychoSk8matic scored a
whooping 13 points. A SJ wall by Jerzey Jezebel, rookie Hottie Hemmorage, and
League President, Mos Deathly, proved impenetrable for Penn Jersey, as Billy Rae
Siren lapped the track and added 5 points. Mos Deathly had a hard time jamming
the first period, only scoring 3 points, as Penn Jersey siched team captain,
Hard Licker, on her.
Rightfully dubbed the Expressway Showdown, the game turned fierce the second
period, as the score tightened to 29-25 at one point. But then Billy Rae,
nicknamed the one-hit wonder, consecutively leveled three PJ players, while her
sister, Mos Deathly racked up an impressive 7 points widening the score to
38-25. Halfway through the period, though, Mos Deathly and PJSD player, Classy
Chassis, took an ugly spill out of a turn, and both came up limping. But that
wasn't before Classy Chassis, and her teammate, Wags, both gave Penn Jersey 4
points. SJ men's captain, That Kid Kenny, added another 5 points and ended the
period with a score of 44-28.
The second period further came to a boil with less than 5 minutes remaining on
the clock, as PsychoSk8matic and PJSD's Vidal Boom Boom tangled into a turn, and
Vidal was launched into the wall. A short intermission ensued as Vidal was taken
off the floor. She suffered a mild concussion, but in typical derby-fashion
released herself from the hospital to attend the game's after-party.
Local band, Impulsive Decision, rocked in the final period as SJ pulled out all
the punches to widen the score to 52-34, and then finally 62-49 as the buzzer
sounded. Victory wasn't easy, though, as PJSD rookies Cheddar and Red Ranger
left a trail of skater carnage on the track the third period.
Be sure to catch more derby action, Sunday, July 20th, as SJ's Big Rig Betties
try to recapture the 1 seed from last month's crushing defeat by the Rollin'
Barren Bandits.

4/31/08 - Morristown Game Recap (81-103)
Last night the Morristown Madams won their Season Opener the Spring Sting. After being plagued by losses in their innagural season, they triumphed over the South Jersey High Voltage Hotties 103-81. The score was with in 1 point of each other for nearly the entire game with the Hotties and Madams alternating the lead until Hotties jammer Mos Deathly found her self in the penalty box, and Madams new commer Mega Menace scored a record 11 points in one jam. This very aggressive, hard hitting game was plagued with injuries, both minor and major. Both the Madams and Hotties kept the Morristown Ambulance Squad extremely busy. In the final minutes of the game, Sophia Low Rent of the Madams took a terrible spill which resulted in a broken ankle and a trip to Morristown Memorial. Just moments later Crashn' Dash of the Hotties was also tripped up with a knee injury, luckily she was able to walk off the rink.
A portion of the proceeds from this game will be donated to Eleventh Hour Rescue a volunteer animal recue organization that saves dogs from death row.
