Three Weeks in & Practice Kicked My
Butt!

Practice kicked my butt. It was my 3rd week.
First week I felt like a newborn calf on Wednesday and an asthmatic
failure on Saturday... I didn't think I'd be able to get used to the
skates.
Second week, I felt a LOT more comfortable on the skates. Figures that
my leg/knee was killing me from something else. I still feel like I did
well Wednesday, but it figures that I had to miss Saturday practice.
Work. :/
This past Wednesday at practice I was feeling good, my lungs hate me
though. I got roped into practicing with the big wheels at one point
and I thought I was going to stop breathing. I LOVED it, but it was
hard work. For doing aerobics and exercising every day, my stamina
sucks... always has... I can only play about 10 minutes of DDR at a
time before I can't breathe, but I was reassured that over time I'll
get used to it and my stamina will build.
The blocking exercise we did was also fun. I knocked someone over! AND
I got an "awesome prize" for doing so. "Awesome prize" being a beer
cozy, BUT IT'S ALL IN THE SYMBOLISM. :P
Jumping is also going to be something I'll need to work on A LOT. I
think once I get really comfortable being on the skates, the balance
will build and I'll feel better about jumping over stuff... Practice
ran late and with all the exercises we did, I feel like I'm learning
quickly. All the girls are awesome, and I feel really guilty about not
knowing everyone's names yet, but this is the first time in about 8
years I've been in a new social situation meeting people and all, give
me some time.
Sunday was an AWESOME photoshoot and game. Smorgasbout '09. Of course
I'm not playing yet, but watching the game was really motivating. It
makes me wish there were more open skate days/hours so I can practice
more and get into the pack sooner. ^_^
My first month of roller derby and it's flying by. I love it so much.
