Maim Frame  #11

Started Playing Derby:  Summer 2013

Team:  South Jersey Roller Derby Travel Team, Shove City

How did you choose your derby name & number?

Several teammates offered derby name suggestions based on my career and hobbies, but ultimately I chose one given to me by Puma.

What led you to roller derby?
My fiance Gingershred, who has been playing with South Jersey Roller Derby for years, convinced me to try out a practice.  Once I started, I was hooked.

What was your biggest hurdle when you first started derby?

My biggest hurdle was learning how to skate on rollerskates, since I had only ever skated on blades previously. Finding my balance was a big deal.

What does being a South Jersey Derby member mean to you?

It means friends, family, a little bit of bromance, and of course, winning. It's a great place to hang out with a bunch of really interesting and fun people while also getting a good workout.

What would you recommend for a new rookie joining the league?

For new rookies, I'd recommend making as many mistakes as you can, hit people (and don't forget to double tap), fall down a lot, try doing things even when you don't think you can, you'll improve quickly this way. Also, as Ed McMayhem would say, remember that it's just as much about looking cool as it is about scoring points.

What is your derby goal?

Currently, it's learning how to juke like Ed McMayhem.

Any notes you'd like to share?

Thanks to all the vets and volunteers who help run the league.  And special thanks to Mos Deathly and Puma for all your hard work!
