How did you choose your derby name & number?

My derby name was picked because I'm little that where lil came from. I am a miss so that where Miz came from.  And defy came from the fact that I defy all the laws and rules!

 

What led you to roller derby?
My friend asked me if I knew how to skate I told her yes.  She said to me "You need to come and see what I do.".  So I agreed to go with her so I went to a practice and in 5 minutes I was hooked and have been skating since. My friend is now my best friend and my derby wifey for life her name is Misderba and I want to thank her for introducing me to roller derby.

 

What was your biggest hurdle when you first started derby?

Understanding the M.A.D.E. rule set at the time and jumping !!

What does being a South Jersey Derby member mean to you?

It means a lot to me . Every member is a great asset to the team. We all work well on the track and off the track. We are a really big extended family -  each and every one of us cares about our team and our team mates.  That's why I love being a South Jersey Derby member.

What would you recommend for a new rookie joining the league?

Be yourself have fun and skate like you stole it!!

 

What is your derby goal?

To juke at top speed and jump over another skater and be the best at what I do.

 

Any notes you'd like to share?

I was skating on big greeny and I was jamming and another member had fallen right in front on me leaving me no where to go.  I tried to jump and ate the track with my chin which jarred my jaw into my brain. I thought I needed stitches in my chin, luckily there was no blood and no stitches were required. So I put my helmet back on ready to skate and Moe told me no sorry you can't skate the rest of the night!! I wanted to cry and was complete bummed out the rest of the night! Yes yes I know in the end it was for my safety.

 

​What is a fun fact about yourself?

My kids are my life love them to the moon and back. I love to work out. I burp better than a man does.  Lastly, I'm the proud assistant manager of a Hair Cuttery !
